The star of Girlfriend is the first actor with Down syndrome to play the lead in a feature film
Believed to be the first actor with Down syndrome to play the lead in a feature film, 31-year-old Massachusetts native Evan Sneider stars opposite Amanda Plummer, Twilight’s Jackson Rathbone and The Riches’ Shannon Woodward in Girlfriend.
Directed by first-timer Justin Lerner, a high school friend of Sneider’s (he also cast him in his 2007 short film The Replacement Child), the movie isn’t without controversy, but Sneider, who says he is set on having a career as an actor, says he’s just pleased to be able to be in Canada for the first time and walking the red carpet. The movie had its world premiere at TIFF on Sunday.

Lyhyt maininta Jacksonista, mutta ainakin itse haluaisin ehdottomasti nähdä tämän elokuvan.
Don’t go see this film because you heard that it is the first American film to cast an actor with Down syndrome in a starring role; Girlfriend is not a gimmick.Set in a small Massachusetts town, the film is the story of Evan (Ben Sneider) a young many with Down syndrome, who lives with his mother and works with her at a café. The love of Evan’s life is Candy (Shannon Woodward), a young, single mother who can’t seem to shake her ex-boyfriend, Russ (Jackson Rathbone). Evan, Candy, and Russ all went to school together, where Candy and Russ were a known couple. With Russ no longer with Candy, Evan desperately wants Candy to be his girlfriend. When he comes into some unexpected funds, he shares it with Candy so she can pay off some of her bills. To the romantic Evan, taking care of Candy means he is her boyfriend because that’s what boyfriends are supposed to do.

In previous interviews with the director and cast of “Girlfriend,” the creators of the film were hesitant about revealing too many plot points. What was known was the plot involved a romance between “New Moon” star Jackson Rathbone and Shannon Woodward as ex-high school sweethearts, but a love triangle was also mentioned with the third angle not disclosed.
Earlier this week, on a visit to the set of “Girlfriend,” director Justin Lerner and his crew decided to share exclusively with MTV the large portion of plot they have been hiding secret: the film’s main character, Evan Grey.
Evan Grey (played by Evan Sneider, pictured, also inspired the character) is a man in his twenties with down syndrome who wants to find love from a woman, and the film (appropriately titled) is about his journey to find a girlfriend. During the course of the tale, Evan comes into some sort of means — which we assume to be money — that he uses to help the girl he’s loved since high school (Shannon), who is currently a single mom.
“Jackson’s character and I have an actual relationship that has since gone sour that still exists, but my relationship with Evan is a friendship,” Shannon explained of the “love” triangle. “And he doesn’t quite understand what having a girlfriend means.”
Jacksonin elokuva Girlfriend saa maailman ensi-iltansa Toronton Filmifestivaaleilla. Tarkkaa päivämäärää ei ole tiedossa, mutta ainakin se on jo tämän vuoden puolella. Itse ainakin haluan ehdottomasti nähdä tämän elokuvan, koska siinä näemme täysin toisenlaisen Jacksonin kuin Houkutuksessa.
Ja näin pienenä välihuomautuksena. Enää 10 viikkoa siihen, että Nelonen esittää Jacksonin Criminal Mindsin jakson! En itse ainakaan malta odottaa tätäkään!
