’100 Monkeys’ invade downtown BR

For at least the next month and a half the members of the Los Angeles-based band 100 Monkeys will call Baton Rouge their home. Their time, however, will not be spent swinging from trees. Instead, they have an ambitious list of tasks to get done and it all begins with a recording studio.

“We’re in town finishing up our sophomore album,” Ben Graupner said during a CW21 exclusive interview conducted in downtown Baton Rouge. “We’re also working on some smaller side projects.”

Including Graupner, the other four who make up the total monkey clan are Jackson Rathbone, Jerad Anderson, Lawrence Abrams, and Ben Johnson. Depending on the night or the mood, each member of the band may perform on any given instrument, which includes everything from traditional guitars to mandolin, flute, and even trumpet.

‘Paranormal Activity,’

For Twilight actor Jackson Rathbone, Poltergeist gave him nightmares.

“The original Poltergeist freaked me out,” he said. “My older sisters forced me to watch it and I had nightmares … I still have nightmares. That movie freaked me out a lot as a kid. I’m excited about Paranormal Activity 2, and I’m a huge zombie fanatic. I grew up on the George A. Romero boxed set. Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, those are real good, amazing movies; not only are they scary but they’re socially relevant. It’s a satire to a certain degree.”

Lionsgate picks up ‘LOL’

Lionsgate has acquired U.S. distribution rights to coming-of-age comedy “LOL,” starring Miley Cyrus, Demi Moore and Ashley Green (“Twilight”), from Mandate Pictures.

Lionsgate hasn’t set a release date for “LOL,” an American version of the 2008 French comedy “Laughing Out Loud.”

Lisa Azuelos directed “LOL” from her own script, in which Cyrus’ character and her friends navigate the peer pressures of high school romance and friendship while dodging their sometimes overbearing and confused parents. When her mom, played by Moore, “accidentally” reads her daughter’s racy journal, she realizes just how wide their communication gap has grown.
